I Spy Spooky Night, hosted by the Des Moines Girl Gang

The Des Moines Girl Gang will host a fall exhibition with a theme based on the book I Spy Spooky Night. The premise is simple: hide at least three objects or concepts in your work and encourage the viewer to find it. Please read below for more details. If you wish to participate, please follow the link “exhibit with us” to enter.

Requirements: You must identify as a woman or genderqueer artist and live in the Des Moines area. To enter, indicate your interest by clicking the “exhibit with us” button to the left. Don’t forget to pay the $5.00 entry fee (via the “pay entry fee” link, also to the left). This fee helps reimburse show costs and goes toward future DSM Girl Gang programming.

Overview: Submissions will be limited to the first 30 applicants, and one artwork per applicant. Please indicate your interest in participating by Sunday, October 1.  Once accepted, please deliver completed work to Viaduct Gallery on Monday, October 9. We will email you with additional details as the date approaches. All work delivered must be ready to hang.

Exhibition Opening: Join us for the opening reception Friday, October 13, from 6-9 p.m. at Viaduct Gallery, located within the Des Moines Social Club (900 Mulberry St., Des Moines).

Description: Per the theme of the exhibition, please write a brief description of your work in riddle form. This will give people an idea of what they should look for hidden in your work. Check out this example from the I Spy Spooky Night book:

“Four owls, a yardstick, a spool, a comb,
beware, a mouse, and anybody home?”

You may submit your description with your final work on October 9.
