There is a grassroots arts movement in Des Moines and people are starting to take notice. Des Moines isn’t just corn, insurance and banking. It’s a city that is on the cusp of a revolution and the art scene is a big part of that movement. From pop-up art galleries to live painting and collaborative work sessions to multiple artist showcases, events are shaking up the Des Moines art scene and exposing this creative culture to a wider audience.

We are making strides to highlight the art community in Des Moines. In addition to construction projects at the firehouse, we are featuring a bundle of art events in May as a way to provide artists around the region an opportunity to present their work, including Art in Motion, Afternoon Art, Art Friends Afternoon Delight, and PedalArt

These events are a perfect example of the focus on art in Des Moines at a grassroots level, artists and creatives coming together to collaborate and showcase all Des Moines has to offer. We look forward to being able to feature even more events like these in the firehouse next year. – Matt McIver.
