1. Do you have an exclusive catering provider?
The Des Moines Social Club does not have an exclusive caterer, but we do have friends we like to work with!
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a tour and for more information.
Renters are invited to bring their own food into our rental spaces with the expectation that trash will be disposed of properly in provided trash bins.
2. How do I reserve a space?
Email email@example.com or call 515.369.3672 to talk about the details of your event! If your requested date and time are available, we will place the space on “hold” for you and begin drafting your contract. Once you receive your contract, we will maintain your hold for two weeks. If we have not received a signed contract and 50% deposit by the end of two weeks, the hold will be released.
3. Where do we park?
There are two public parking ramps on Mulberry that are free after 5 pm and on weekends. There is also limited street parking available in the surrounding blocks.
4. What are your alcohol policies?
MALO, our on-site restaurant, holds the liquor license for the main building. The Des Moines Social Club, holds the liquor license for the Kum & Go Theater building. Therefore, no outside alcohol is allowed under NO circumstances. If you would like a specific alcohol beverage, the rentals team is more than happy to work with you! Just notify us at least 2 weeks before your event.
5. Do you have tables and chairs?
Tables and chairs are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. We have a variety of different tables from 4-8 foot folding tables, 42-inch short round tables, round tables that seat up to 10 people, and 42-inch cocktail tables. Please make your needs known right away so that we can determine if our tables and chairs are available on your given date. If additional tables or chairs are needed, our rental staff will work with you to make it happen!
6. What about tents for outdoor events?
If you are booking an event in our Courtyard, we recommend renting a tent. Our Rentals team is happy to help coordinate with you and a vendor! Tents are available in all sizes, with walls or without, and even heat for cooler days. Des Moines Social Club does not own tents, but permanent anchors will be installed in our Courtyard for convenient set up and tear down.
7. What about decorations?
We love decorations! Use your imagination. Get crazy! If you can clean it, you can do it! We don’t love glitter or confetti of any kind. We also don’t love tape or adhesives that will damage paint or other finishes. Removable glue dots, command strips, or sticky tack are good alternatives. Decorations may not be hung from the sprinkler system. All decorations in the Kum & Go Theater must be discussed with and approved by our Rentals Team.
8. Do you allow amplified sound?
Yes! We love amplified sound. To respect our neighbors, we request that amplified sound in our outdoor spaces ends at 10 pm. A sound permit may be required for your event which the Rentals Team is happy to help you apply for!
9. We’re a non-profit. What about us?
The Des Moines Social Club is pleased to partner with other nonprofits to host special events, meetings and fundraisers. We will do our best to offer a pricing solution within your budget. When receiving discounted or donated space, we request that the renter provide their own volunteers for set-up, tear-down and clean-up. Donated spaces will be in “as-is” condition. Any changes to the room arrangements will need to be made by the renter after approval by the Rentals Team.
