1. Do you have an exclusive catering provider?
The Des Moines Social Club does not have an exclusive caterer, but we do offer a list of preferred vendors. These are local companies with whom we have an established relationship and are confident will exceed your expectations. View our Preferred Caterers Brochure here! Renters are invited to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages into our rental spaces with the expectation that trash will be disposed of properly.
2. How do I reserve a space?
If your requested date and time are available, we will place the space on “hold” for you and begin drafting your contract. Once you receive your contract, we will maintain your hold for two weeks. If we have not received a signed contract and 50% deposit by the end of two weeks, the hold will be released.
3. Where do we park?
There are two public parking ramps on Mulberry that are free after 5 pm and on weekends. There is also limited street parking available in the surrounding blocks.
4. What are your alcohol policies?
MALO, our on-site restaurant, holds the liquor license for the building. Therefore all alcohol must be arranged through them. Staffed satellite bars are available for $150. Special arrangements can be made for smaller groups. Contact Nick Bopes (email@example.com) with any special requests.
5. Do you have tables and chairs?
The Social Club owns around 200 chairs which are shared between our two buildings (the Kum & Go Theater and the Firehouse). Often, about 150 of these chairs are used for audience seating in the theater, but the rest are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. We also own approximately twenty 6-foot tables, five 42-inch short round tables, and four 42-inch cocktail tables. These are also available on a first-come, first served basis. Please make your needs known righ away so that we can determine if our tables and chairs are available on your given date. 6. What about tents for outdoor events?
If you are booking an event in our Courtyard or Rooftop Patio, we recommend renting a tent. Tents are available in all sizes, with walls or without, and even heat for cooler days. Des Moines Social Club does not own tents, but permanent anchors will be installed in our Courtyard for convenient set up and tear down.
7. What about decorations?
We love decorations! Use your imagination. Get crazy! If you can clean it, you can do it! We don’t love glitter or confetti of any kind. We also don’t love tape or adhesives that will damage paint or other finishes. Removable glue dots or sticky tack are good alternatives. Decorations may not be hung from the sprinkler system. All decorations in the Kum & Go Theater must be discussed with and approved by our Technical Team. Open flames are not allowed, electronic tea lights may be brought in.
8. Do you allow amplified sound?
Yes! We love amplified sound. To respect our neighbors, we request that amplified sound in our outdoor spaces ends at 10 pm.
9. We’re a non-profit. What about us?
The Des Moines Social Club is pleased to partner with other non-profits to host special events, meetings and fundraisers. We offer all non-profits a 20% discount on rental rates and will do our best to offer a pricing solution within your budget. When receiving discounted or donated space, we request that the renter provide their own volunteers for set-up, tear-down and clean-up. Donated spaces will be in “as-is” condition. Any changes to the room arrangements will need to be made by the renter after approval by the Venue Coordinator.
