Grand Opening Party – May 10
Come See Des Moines Change.
We’ve been waiting seven years for this moment! The Des Moines Social Club’s official grand opening of our new permanent home at the downtown Firehouse is set for Saturday, May 10. To celebrate, we are hosting a huge free party to showcase the diverse, multidisciplinary programming that will be housed at the Firehouse.
Yes, it’s true … David Byrne of the Talking Heads will give a keynote address at the Grand Opening Party. After performing at the 2013 80/35 music festival and spending time in Des Moines, David Byrne took interest in the community. He wrote three blog posts praising his experience and perceptions of Des Moines. He will speak about the role arts play in a community.
Friends, we now have a space to create whatever we want, play however we wish, and push the envelope. Des Moines now has a home focused on supporting and developing our robust local talent.
The Des Moines Social Club belongs to everyone and is for everyone. Please help us spread the word. Invite your friends, co-workers, kids, family, and everyone in between to come see the space on May 10. You’ve gotta see it to fully understand the significance this is going to have on the community.
We look forward to all of you coming to the Firehouse to see how Des Moines has changed.
Thanks for helping make this happen. See you on May 10th.
