The Lessons of Art: Art as Therapy for Cancer Survivors
The Lessons of Art: Art as Therapy for Cancer Survivors
The class will include 9-12 participants. There will be no need for prior art making experience. Some of the art made, will no doubt, be compelling, interesting and beautiful for what they are. But the art is intended as a vehicle and process for reflection and not about product making or making masterpieces. Rather the class will require you to be open, vulnerable, and reflective to create an environment of expressive freedom, exploration, acceptance, learning and growth. The class is meant to be a safe, and supportive environment for exploring feelingsand issues related to cancer survival.
This class is a 13-week class that meets once weekly, Thursday evenings 6-9pm. 10 of those weeks will be held at the Des Moines Social Club, 3 weeks will be spent at the Kunzler Studios in Valley Junction working with clay and wheel throwing. The class will run from Jan 17th-April 25th. No class Feb. 14th, Valentine’s Day. The class is $130, and all art supplies will be provided. Nobody with a financial need will be turned away.
