Join us for the opening reception for Iowa Stage featuring works by Katelyn McBurney.

Iowa Stage features new work by artist Katelyn McBurney developed in collaboration with Iowa Stage Theatre Company. The project was designed by Iowa Stage to foster a cross disciplinary discussion regarding the stories being told in their 2018-2019 season. McBurney’s mixed media works on paper are vibrant expressions of the emotion and theme’s of a diverse season of theater. With bold colors and McBurney’s characteristic flowing line work, the dynamic imagery offers a new take and unique vision for each story.

Katelyn McBurney is a visual and performing artist based in Des Moines, IA. Her work has been featured regionally at the ol guild in Des Moines, IA, Mainframe Studios, Stewart Gallery in Grinnell, Iowa, Chapman House, and the Denler Gallery at University of Northwestern Saint Paul. McBurney has a background in Biology; her work is influenced by her study of the human body and organic material. She is process based and utilizes a mixed media approach with a focus of small works on paper. McBurney is also a performing artist and has been active in the Des Moines theater community since she moved to Iowa in 2010. She also performs regularly as a living statue.
