Additional Materials // Participants may bring any specific books or materials they would like to incorporate into their artwork. There will be books, permanent markers, watercolor paints, colored pencils and frames provided.

Do you like art and poetry, but have trouble finding the words to say? Let an old book speak for you! Join Crystal at the Des Moines Social Club for a workshop on blackout poetry (art-poems from discarded books). Learn about the history of this art, see a variety of examples, and create art with local friends. Register by December 4th. 

About the Artist: Crystal’s poetry has previously appeared or is forthcoming in Sports Literate, Collective Unrest, Driftwood Press, New Verse News, Occulum, Anomaly, BONED, Eunoia Review, isacoustics, Tuck Magazine, Writers Resist, Drunk Monkeys, Coldnoon, Poets Reading the News, Jet Fuel Review, The Rectangle, North Central Review, Badlands Review, Green Blotter, Southword Journal Online and Dylan Days. She is currently pursuing her MFA at Iowa State University, gave a TEDx talk on poetry the first week of April and her first collection of poetry, Knock-Off Monarch, is forthcoming from Dawn Valley Press this autumn.
