Amer Alobaidi is well-known Iraqi American artist. He is the former Director of the National Museum of Modern Art and General Director of Fine Arts in Iraq. Like many other refugees, Alobaidi and his family fled the country during the violence of 2006 and have been living in Des Moines, Iowa since then.

Lost in the Maze of Immigration is an exhibit that is majorly influenced by Alobaidi’s life as an immigrant in the States. The deep, moody colors and the emotions of human suffering is expressed in his artwork.
