The 48 Hour Film Project – Des Moines
This is Des Moines’ 13th year taking part in the national filmmaking competition that occurs in dozens of different cities across America. The competition rules are simple: each team must write, film, and edit a short film in just 48 hours based on a few simple requirements, such as an obscure prop, a specific line, and a genre choice that is pulled from a hat. This year, 32 Des Moines teams put together films that will compete for various city prizes awarded by the judges, such as Best of Des Moines, Best Cinematography, and Best Directing. The winning team will go on to compete against other cities in the national festival Filmapalooza, and from there will have the opportunity to take their film to Cannes International Film Festival in France!
Every year, the 48 Hour Film Project has been a coveted weekend among members of the theatre and film community in Des Moines and brings together hundreds of Iowan writers, directors, actors, and filmmakers.
