Roots & Craft: Mardi Gras w/ NOLA J…
Feb 02 | 5:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Laissez les bons temps rouler! We may not be down in the bayou, but you can still let the good times roll with us, celebrating Mardi Gras! Join us for a fun evening in the spirit of Mardi Gras, listening to the sounds of NOLA Jazz Band, followed by Grand Avenue Ruckus. This concert is a special edition of DMSC’s Roots & Craft series, held each Friday, presenting Roots music across multiple genres and a new Craft food, wine, or beer feature each week. Stay tuned for our Craft features, full of traditional New Orleans cuisines and libations!
NOLA JAZZ BAND
All band members have a common love for the sound and “feel” of both traditional and current New Orleans and roots blues music – real, gutsy, raw, heartfelt, and entertaining. They also find joy in their music and love performing together, having fun, and entertaining their audiences. The NOLA Jazz Band has played alongside a number of well-known traditional jazz and music groups this past year including Davina & the Vagabonds, Sony recording artist trumpet player and singer Bria Skonberg, and Dom Flemons of The Carolina Chocolate Drops. Individual band members have also shared the stage with Vincent Gardner, Maynard Ferguson, Benny Goodman, Kurt Elling, and many other well know jazz artists during their careers. NOLA Jazz Band members have also been inducted into the Iowa Jazz Hall of Fame, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
GRAND AVENUE RUCKUS
Who’s Ready For A Ruckus? Grand Ave Ruckus is the Midwest’s newest brass band, and they’re here to bring the boogie from the bayou here to the heartland. Taking inspiration from New Orleans’ best brass bands to the Jackson 5, Grand Ave Ruckus is a bombastic, get-down-and-dance, funk filled show. Featuring local Des Moines musicians, Grand Ave Ruckus covers your favorite tunes with a powerful, horn-driven performance. Screaming trumpets, wailing saxophones, and a big bottom end give Grand Ave Ruckus their one-of-a-kind sound. Grand Ave Ruckus is always a party, and it’s definitely one you won’t want to miss!
