Announcement: The 2012 All Metro Student Show
Bertolt Brecht’s Caucasian Chalk Circle
July 19 – 22, 2012
Caucasian Chalk Circle, an epic masterpiece of ensemble theatre, takes place in the Caucasus mountains in southern Russia. The great Singer Arkadi tells the story. First we hear the story of Grusha, a servant girl, who sacrifices her plans for the future to save the life of an abandoned baby in the midst of government upheaval. Then we hear the story of Azdak and how he becomes a judge and how his rule in is almost just. Years later, when the birth mother steps forward to claim the child and his inheritance, Azdak resides over the case and rules in a most unconventional way: the chalk circle.
Caucasian Chalk Circle is a play with music. We are looking for students to fill these roles:
We also have three college-level intern positions available:

My Story My Song – Arts Learning Workshop, Ages 12+
“My Story My Song” is a poetry- and spoken word- based residency program. Residencies typically include two teaching artists in the classroom once or twice a week. Students ages 12 and up reflect on their respective backgrounds, write, read their work, workshop and direct a variety of semi-autobiographical performances. This workshop spans at least six sessions to successfully develop a writing community and allow for a rehearsal process before the culminating Poetry Slam/Cafe/Show/Reading event, planned and hosted by the student participants. Principals, teachers, or parents please contact Yvette Zarod Hermann with any questions or to hear about previous programs at mystorymysong@gmail.com.
Shakespeare is Elementary! – Arts Learning Workshop, Ages 8-12
“Shakespeare is Elementary” introduces third, fourth and fifth graders to Shakespeare’s plays and language, and culminates with a presentation of Shakespearean scenes for an audience of their peers, teachers, and principal. Residencies typically include two teaching artists over a three-day period.
