You come, you dance, you play, you laugh. Participate in group activities or do your own thing. Go to the lobby and take a breather from the action, maybe read some books. Come back in, dance it out.

Special guest or activity starts at 11:00 and lasts about 30 minutes. Just right for all attention spans. What? Your kid doesn’t sit still? No problem. Group activities will be geared toward crowd in attendance including activities for older kids like limbo and group dances AND for younger kids like follow the leader and freeze dance.

The DMSC Theater Co. presents their first musical, The Last Five Years. An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

Page to Stage is the Des Moines Social Club’s monthly play reading series. We present a staged reading of a new play—either brand new, an obscure old find, or something new to Des Moines. Always Free.

The February Page to Stage will feature August Wilson’s masterpiece, Fences. Fences is the most performed and most accessible of August Wilson’s 10 play 20th Century cycle, exploring African-American identity in each decade of the past century. Ken-Matt Martin will direct what looks to be an all-star cast.

DMSC Presents The Acoustic Nomad Tour. Mathis Grey, John Fellman and Patrick Woods have banded together to share their unique progression of acoustic styles on a cross-country tour from Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Napa, California – and back. From Mathis Grey’s dulcet mix of tender vocals, intricate rhythm and beat-box to John Fellman’s fingerstyle, guitar-percussion and instrumental overtones and the virtuosic talent of acoustic soloist, Patrick Woods, every show is sure to be a musical journey and delight to the ears.

DMSC Presents offers opportunities for artists from around the region to present their work, both in performance and visual arts.

Des Moines creatives come together for Story Mob 1.5 at the Des Moines Social Club. Join us to share your story for a chance to win or just come to listen to a mob of Des Moines storytellers!

Story Mob is like a Flash Mob. A mob of people gather, and a story breaks out. 5…minute stories 4…times per year 3…guest judges 2…cash prizes 1…story prop. You have 5‐minutes; the stage is yours! The prop will serve as the story theme during the Open Mob (open mic) session. Storytellers are encouraged to interpret the theme, however, all stories will be judged on their ability to incorporate the Story Prop into either non‐fiction or fiction format.

Tell your story and win! $100 First Prize (judges award), $50 Second Prize (based on Mob support).

Show off your knowledge of stuff! Des Moines Social Club’s Team Trivia is every Tuesday night at 7:30pm at the Gas Lamp. Bring a team of 2-6 people for great drink specials and 8 rounds of trivia! Rounds contain 5 questions with links hinting at each previous question’s answer. Also, occasional theme rounds to spice things up! Each weekly winner gets to pick the first category for the next week’s trivia as well as bragging rights. Monthly winners receive fabulous prizes! Systema: Russian Martial Art

Systema is a Russian martial art. It is designed to be highly adaptive and practical, training using drills and sparring. It focuses mainly on controlling the six body levers (elbows, neck, knees, waist, ankles, and shoulders) through pressure point application, striking and weapon applications.
