Classes Set to Begin at the Firehouse in February, Registration Now Open
As we continue renovations at the firehouse, the classrooms in the main building of the space are officially opening next month to host classes in a variety of arts disciplines.
Registration for the below classes opens today! Stay tuned for many more class offerings in the future.
And, you may be asking… when will we have our grand opening? We’re offering limited programming in the firehouse from now until April. Then look for the grand opening and full programming to happen in early May.
Film & Theater:
Acting I and II
Whether you are just starting out, or a seasoned professional looking to make your work even better, this Sanford Meisner-based class is specifically designed to take you further toward excellence in your actor’s journey. Instructor: James Serpento. Saturdays 10:00am – 1:00pm, starting Feb. 15. Free introductory class Feb. 8.
A place for actors to work together on their craft and instrument, the goal of this course is to establish an ensemble work ethic that pushes members to do their best work and find new avenues of creativity. Instructor: Devin Preston. Mondays 7:00 – 8:30pm starting Feb. 17.
Introduction to Film and Video
This course will focus on the student’s development as a film and video maker, working on technical abilities, creative use of the medium, and critical and theoretical understanding of film and video. Instructor: Samuel Pace-Tuomi. Thursdays 6:30 – 8:30pm starting March 20.
Writing for Stage and Screen
Drawing from many theorists and practitioners (including Robert McKee, David Mamet, Michael Hauge and others), as well as his own experience, instructor James Serpento leads a course focusing on the craft of structuring story for maximum impact. Instructor: James Serpento. Saturdays 2:00 – 5:00pm starting Feb. 8.
Comic book Artist Ron Wagner (G.I. Joe, Batman, Superman) teaches a 10-week course in which students create two pages and a cover for their own comic book. Instructor: Ron Wagner. Tuesdays 7:00 – 8:30pm starting Feb. 4.
American Tribal Style® Belly Dance
For students who have never tried ATS® Belly Dance or for advanced students who want to refine their moves. The combination of colorful costumes, adornments, coordinated movements and its improvisational style make for a fun, exciting venture! Instructor: Dawn Grey. Thursdays 6:15 – 7:15pm starting Feb. 6.
This 1.5-hr sequence moves in a vinyasa flow style through fundamental standing poses, deep seated stretches and twists, heartopeners, inversions and centering pranayama work. All levels welcome. Instructor: Mary Lasky. Mondays 5:30 – 7:00pm starting Feb. 3.
A beginner breakdancing class for all ages. Students will learn the basic foundations of breakdancing along with history of the Hip Hop culture. This 12 week class teaches basic toprocking, footwork, freezes, transitions, and power. Instructor: Anthony San. Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:00pm starting Feb. 4.
Foundations of Hooping
This hooping class will be geared toward beginners, but all levels are welcome. Students will work on foundational moves and build towards more advanced moves. Instructor: Leah Barber. Saturdays 12:00 – 2:00pm starting Feb. 15.
Each week students will work on different types of hoopdance moves such as transitions, kick ups, jump throughs, duck outs, reversals, and isolations. Instructor: Leah Barber. Wednesdays 5:30 – 7:30pm starting Feb. 5.
Yoga I and II
This challenging and thought provoking class that will leave you feeling renewed, refreshed, and ready for the world! Designed for all levels. Instructor: Dirdre Lane. Wednesdays 6:30 – 7:30am starting Feb. 5.
Sunday Circus Jam
Bring your hoop, minis, poi, staff, flow wand, etc. and come out to play! This practice jam is free. Sundays 4:00 – 6:00pm starting Feb. 9.
All Aerial Class
Want to learn how to fly through the air? This class is a great way to try out all things aerial. From the trapeze, to the aerial hoop and aerial fabric, there’s no better way to have fun, get fit, and improve your coordination. No experience necessary. Instructor: Laura Ernst and Felicia Coe. Tuesdays 6:30 – 8:00pm and Saturdays 12:00 – 1:30pm beginning in March. Registration will open soon.
Want to learn amazing new skills and invigorate your fitness routine? This class will explore juggling, hula hooping, acrobatics and even aerial arts! This is great way to learn a little bit of everything circus. No experience necessary. Instructor: Laura Ernst. Wednesdays 7:00 -8:30pm beginning in March. Registration will open soon.
Once a month our friends at Combustible Circus will lead fire enthusiats in an outdoor Firejam in the Courtyard. Featuring classes in fire safety and beginning Poi, you will be invited to spin with the group or have a drink and watch Every fourth Sunday beginning in April. Registration will open soon.
