PedalArt Des Moines is announcing a call for artists for our 2013 bicycle poster art show at the Des Moines Social Club. PedalArt Des Moines is a local show of bicycle-inspired poster artwork that introduces people to talented local artists and sends them home with affordable, original works of art. Writers: The Modern Dickens Project
Any writer is challenged each month to continue the current story being told by The Modern Dickens Project. Chapter by chapter, month by month, for twelve months, resulting in a collective thirteen chapter novel. Submissions for Chapter 3 are due February 21. Artists: Urbandale Public Library
The Urbandale Public Library is opening an Art Gallery in March. The display space is limited to two dimensional work right now but display cases are on the wish list. The gallery has over 120 running feet of hanging space with new lighting and security. It is located at the front of the library surrounded by the public meeting rooms. This is a very high traffic area. Their plan is to have shows last a month to six weeks. These can be group shows or individual shows of artists from the metro and surrounding area. Des Moines Performing Arts provides unique training opportunities for local artists of all ages. Guest Broadway artists, professional dancers, and other performing arts professionals lead interactive master classes and workshops typically only available in much larger cities such as New York. Writers: Spoilage Literary Magazine
Writers rejoice! A new literary endeavor is taking shape in Des Moines: Spoilage literary magazine invites all interested persons to submit works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and cartooning to be considered for publication in its inaugural issue, scheduled for release in April 2013.
