Chuck Current, Executive Director
Chuck leads DMSC with passion and experience. Prior to joining the DMSC team, Chuck worked at a regional bank holding company located in Eastern Iowa. He also served as president of the Maquoketa Betterment Corp (a local non-profit aimed at community revitalization and engagement). He served one year on the City Council and served as a board member of the Maquoketa Art Experience (an organization much like the Des Moines Social Club).
He brings 25+ years of corporate, non-profit and community building and revitalization experience with him. Chuck has a unique appreciation of the arts and understands that a celebration of the many disciplines provides opportunities to build vibrant communities.
Pete Bold, Hospitality Director
Pete brings over 20 years of experience to our Culinary and Concessions programs. His love of the food and beverage industry paired with his passion for music and the arts makes him the perfect fit for the Social Club. Pete is always looking for creative ways to make the Club more “hospitable.” Luckily for the rest of the staff, this usually includes samples and lots of laughs.
Samantha Claypool, Venue Associate
After working in our hospitality department for a year, we decided we wanted to keep Samantha. She’s here to make your dream event into a reality! A graduate of Central College, Sam comes to DMSC with a background in nonprofit and event planning experience. Her weaknesses are puns, coffee, wine, popcorn, and movie nights. Don’t talk to her next May, she’ll be watching Game of Thrones…
Monica de Melo Dreasher is excited to be with the Des Moines Social Club as of July 2017! Since graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Women’s and Gender Studies, she has worked with mission-based nonprofit and government organizations in Iowa to build capacity and develop sustainable programing. She served terms of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA member with the Cedar Rapids Public Library and the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service. Monica is passionate about making arts and cultural spaces in Des Moines accessible to all members of the community, and in her free time enjoys hiking with her dog, Netflix, and video games.
Tad Guy, Program Associate
Tad is excited to join the Social Club as of January 2019! Tad graduated from Luther College in Decorah, IA with a double major in Business Management and Psychology. During his time at Luther he developed a passion for programming arts and music events for his college community, and furthered his skill set for planning large scale events by becoming deeply involved with 80/35 Music Festival, Hinterland Music Festival, and other Des Moines-based events. Tad has a specifically deep interest in music festivals, and during his time at Luther received fellowship funding for an independent trip across Europe to attend some of the continent’s premiere festivals.
Dan Haymes, Sales Director
Dan (the man with a plan) is ready to make your event spectacular, whether it’s a business meeting, corporate party, graduation, wedding and anything else you can think up! Born and raised in Chicago, Dan went to Drake University and permanently moved to Des Moines two years ago. He enjoys weightlifting, theater, playing the drums, and hosting dinner parties. Outside of his time at DMSC, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Kim, of nearly four years and their cat and dog.
Ryan has been at the Social Club since graduating from Missouri Western State University in 2015. Since then, Ryan has worked in production and behind the scenes, gaining perspective on how art and communities grow together. Now he has transitioned into programming performing arts, with a focus on collaboration with visual arts and educational programs. When not working at the Social Club, Ryan leads a multi-media band of freaks called LVVMAKING.
Katie Ortman, Program & Outreach Director
Katie joined the Social Club team in May of 2014. She oversees the visual arts, music, film, and education programs, manages the volunteer and intern teams, and develops partnerships with artists and organizations in the community – and anything else if you ask nicely. Katie is also the Des Moines Producer for the 48 Hour Film Project, a weekend-long filmmaking competition and film festival. She received her BA in English from Drake University.
Katie Privitera, Communications Director
Katie joined the Social Club team in September 2017 and hasn’t looked back! After graduating from Simpson College with degrees in English, Theatre, and Women’s & Gender Studies, Katie comes to the Social Club with over six years’ experience in nonprofit marketing. She considers herself a master communicator, crusader for the arts and a passionate non-profit advocate. Outside the Social Club, you can find her nose in a book, attempting to teach her dog to fetch, or taking a crack at the latest recipe from Pinterest.
Brad A. Watkins, Development Director
Brad joins the Social Club team with over ten years of experience in management of nonprofit teams working in development and marketing. His passion for design and online technology integrates seamlessly into his passions of fundraising, data analytics, branding, and communications. Brad joins DMSC after working as the Digital Marketing Specialist at Nebraska Methodist Health System in Omaha, NE where he oversaw the daily upkeep and planning for over twenty websites and seven Facebook pages that represented consumer-facing and internal communications. He and his wife, Blythe reside in Ankeny IA, and their daughter, Brenna is a senior at Columbia College Chicago.
